01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The first thing that catches the eye in the display cases at Kasho Iwatsuki is the diverse lineup of dorayaki pancakes. Beyond the customary sweet red bean filling, the shop offers distinctive variations such as a keema curry dorayaki pairing sweet-and-spicy mince with pancake dough, as well as spicy versions and a vibrant green moringa dorayaki. Rooted in the unpretentious warmth of a neighbourhood Japanese confectionery, each bite brings an unexpected twist on tradition.

Alongside the inventive dorayaki, Western-style Iwatsuki cream puffs have earned a loyal following despite this being a traditional sweets shop, often selling out early in the day. The shelves also feature enduring classics, including chestnut steamed yokan packed with large chestnuts, delicate mizu-warabi mochi, skewered mitarashi dango, and celebratory sekihan steamed red bean rice.

Conveniently located along the walk from Kanamachi Station toward Kasai Shrine, the shop has also served as a television filming location and maintains a welcoming, unhurried neighbourhood feel. Confections can be purchased as boxed gift sets or easily picked up individually (1 piece at a time), and cashless payment methods like PayPay and Rakuten Pay are accepted at the register.
